Reggie Bush & Jeff Bell

Butt-kicking in progress. Reggie Bush takes Jeff Bell to school in Madden NFL 08.

E3 2007

TriXie interviews Jeff Bell

Published July 11, 2007

I was just finishing breakfast with Highbury Gunner when we ran into Jeff Bell in the dining room. You know, Microsoft's Vice President of Global Marketing. Yeah, that Jeff Bell. I managed to get his attention for a short Q & A before he went off to watch the Sony press conference.

TriXie: So, nice job at the briefing last night!

Jeff: I got my butt kicked by Reggie Bush.

TriXie: Hey, no shame in getting beat by a Heisman Trophy winner. Think how embarrassing it would have been if Peter Moore beat you at American football!

Jeff: That's true.

TriXie: Besides your Madden NFL 08 humiliation, how do you think the briefing went?

Jeff: I thought it went very well. It's a transition year for E3 and we decided to focus on business and the metrics.

TriXie: I'm not a big fan of metrics, but there was one figure that blew me away. A new Xbox LIVE® member every 8 seconds! That's amazing.

Jeff: Yeah, it really is. I was also excited about the great reaction to the Xbox LIVE Arcade games last night. I've gotten into Arcade games in a big, big way—I think PAC-MAN Championship Edition is responsible for that.

TriXie: What are you playing besides the new PAC-MAN?

Jeff: I've been playing Bankshot Billiards 2™ and DIG DUG. I also really like Prince of Persia® Classic.

TriXie: I heard your son stole your Gamertag and Gamerscore, and you had to start all over from scratch.

Jeff: Yeah, my son sort of took over my old Gamertag, so I got a new one, BigDaddy801, and I'm slowly building my Gamerscore back up again. I just finished Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer. That one is great to play with your kids because you have to work together.

TriXie: What's the significance of 801?

Jeff: I was a big Roxy Music fan in college, and Brian Eno left and started a band called 801. I was really into art rock/progressive rock, and 801 has been my favorite number ever since.

TriXie: What games that we're showing at E3 are you most excited about?

Jeff: I'm a Halo fanboy. I got to level 14 in the Halo® 3 beta playing Rumble Pit and Team Slayer, so I'm looking forward to that. I would also like to play Mass Effect™. The only RPG I've ever completed was Star Wars®: Knights of the Old Republic™.

TriXie: I'm really excited about Scene It?® Lights, Camera, Action. I was surprised that people didn't ooh and aww more over that one.

Jeff: Well the E3 audience is more hardcore, so the Call of Duty 4 demo and Assassin's Creed™ were more their speed, but when people back home get their hands on Scene It?, they're going to love it.

TriXie: And they can only get it on Xbox 360™.

Jeff: Exactly. That kind of fun pick up and play game, and our partnership with Disney, shows our commitment to deliver great entertainment for all audiences.

TriXie: Thanks Jeff!
