Dennis Durkin is corporate vice president and chief operating and financial officer for Microsoft Corp.’s Interactive Entertainment Business (IEB). In this capacity, he is responsible for managing the overall IEB profit and loss, coordinating the business rhythm and driving execution of the three-year rolling business plan. In addition to overseeing acquisition activity, he manages the IEB third-party games business portfolio.
Before taking this role, Durkin served as the chief financial officer for IEB and helped build a new culture of profit and innovation within IEB by delivering three years of solid profitability. He continues to be responsible for all financial planning and analysis relating to the Xbox 360 console, Kinect, Xbox LIVE, accessories, first- and third-party games software, Mediaroom and Zune.
Durkin joined Microsoft in 1999 and spent his first seven years in Microsoft corporate development. In that capacity, he managed a team that was responsible for helping shape acquisition and investment strategy for Microsoft’s Information Worker, Business Solutions, Windows, and Home and Entertainment business units. From 2001 to 2003 he was headquartered in London focusing on European opportunities. He worked on a variety of acquisitions and partnerships in areas including games, Microsoft Office, unified communications, security, digital media, Windows Client, Microsoft TV and cable, and services.
Durkin holds an MBA from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree in government from Dartmouth College. He enjoys golfing, running and spending time with his wife and three daughters.
