On the Xbox Service Web site, you can perform the following tasks for your Xbox 360 console or for your original Xbox console:

• Register your Xbox console

  You can register your Xbox console to associate your console with your Windows Live ID and to save your contact information in our registration database.

• Set up a service order

  If you are having problems with your Xbox console, you can submit an service request for a console that you have registered.

  Note: Your console may be exchanged at the discretion of the service center. If you prefer to have your console repaired, please call Xbox Customer Support instead of creating the service order online.

• Check the status of an existing service order

  You can monitor the status of an existing service request for your Xbox console. This includes shipping information.

You can now do the following online:

Register your console

You can register your Xbox console to associate your console with your Windows Live ID and to save your contact information in our registration database. If you don't have a Windows LIVE ID, you can sign up for one here.

To register your Xbox console, follow these steps:

1. Please visit the Xbox Service Web site at http://service.xbox.com.
2. Click Sign In.

3. Enter the e-mail address and the password for your Windows Live ID, and then click Sign in.

4. Click Register a new Device, and then type the serial number of your Xbox console. Note Your Xbox console's serial number is located on the back of the console.
5. To modify your personal information, click Edit Customer to change your name, address, telephone number, or e-mail address.
6. Click Submit.

After you have registered your Xbox console, you can submit a service request for a console that is in your list of registered consoles.

Note: You can register up to 10 consoles under one Windows Live ID. If you own more than 10 consoles you would like to service, please create another Windows Live ID’.

Set up a service request

If you are experiencing problems with your Xbox console, you can request a service for a console that you have registered.

Hardware: One of the lights on the Ring of Light on the front of your Xbox 360 console flashes red, and you do not receive an error code

Hardware: While attempting to load a disc in your Xbox 360 console, you receive the error message: "This disc is unreadable"

To set up a service request, follow these steps:

1. In the Manage registered devices list, click the console that you want to create a service request.
2. Click Request a new repair.
3. Confirm your customer information on the confirmation screen. To make changes, clickEdit Customer. Or, click Confirm to continue.
4. Enter a description of the problem or details about why you are requesting the service. This screen also shows the warranty status of the console. After you have entered the details, click Submit.
5. Confirm your order on the confirmation screen. Based on your console type and your warranty status, the service price may vary. The terms and conditions of the online repair process appear. If you agree to the terms, click to select the I agree to all the terms and conditions set forth above check box, and then click Place Order.

After you place your order, you will receive a confirmation e-mail message within 24 hours. The message includes additional instructions about your service order.

Service instructions

You have to package and send the bare console without the power supply, controllers, or cables, unless you determine that these devices are also faulty. Make sure you remove the hard drive, any discs from the disc tray, and any custom faceplates.

Notes:

• After creating the order, write down the Service Request Number (10 digits) displayed on the “Order Receipt” screen. 
• Please ship your console as quickly possible and make sure that it is within 20 days or we will cancel the service request  order.
• If we find any evidence of tampering or anything else that voids the warranty, we will not proceed with your service request  and will return the console back to you as is.
• Note: Your console may be exchanged at the discretion of the service center.  If you prefer to have your console repaired, please call Xbox Customer Support instead of creating the service order online.

Check the status of an existing service

If you have an existing service request that you created on the telephone with Xbox Customer Support, you can check and monitor the status of an existing service request for your Xbox console.  This includes shipping information.

To check the status of the service, follow these steps:

1. Please visit the Xbox Service Web site at http://service.xbox.com .
2. Sign in if you are not already signed in.
3. In the Manage registered devices list, click the console for which you want to check the repair status.
4. If you have an existing service, click Review your repair status.
5. Review the information on the Repair Status screen.
