Mortal Kombat Deception

By i4got1

Delivering the most complete fighting game to date, along with the lethal intensity that the franchise has been known for since its 1992 debut in arcades, Mortal Kombat: Deception was set to revolutionize the fighting game genre. With Xbox Live potential plus multiple fatalities per character, multi-tiered interactive backgrounds and extensive new game modes, Mortal Kombat: Deception delivers, for the first time, an enhanced free-roaming Konquest mode, an action/strategy board game and a unique puzzle game that compliment the enhanced, one-on-one fighting mode. Did it pass the test.

Blood, Blood everywhere but not a drop is mine.....

It is a surprise to see that the 11th game in the Mortal Kombat series is not a rehash of previous titles. Whether you were playing one of the games back on an arcade machine back in the early 90's or just a looking at a fun brutal fighter, this game is the one for you. As you open your case to MKD you may be thinking to yourself "was this really worth my hard earned money" and the answer that question is yes. It may not be on par with Dead or Alive:Ultimate but this game is not your typical fighter. The creators have made this game appeal to something that every man(or women) has inside them, the pleasure of creating visible harm on their opponent. Everything that made this series an icon has been retained in all its former glory.

Get over here.....

With a plentiful selection of characters(24 in total) and a interesting selection of arenas(19) there is plenty of fighting to do before you will get bored of the MKD universe. This game features many of the characters that helped make this series famous(sub-zero) and new ones that will continues its legacy each featuring 2 fighting stances with exclusive combos plus an extra stance which is for those of us who love beating people with weapons. This creates a feeling of paranoia because you never know when you opponent is going to pull they power combo out of the other fighting stance. This is easily countered by switching combos yourself, which is easily done by pulling the left trigger, or simply pressing block which if pressed at the right time will make the attacker shoot back and injure himself. Combat has been worked so that juggling shouldn't be a problem but doesn't help when you opponent is in the corner, cant break your combos or even stand up.

In this Mortal Kombat there are four modes to buy away you time until the wee little hours.

Kombat

This is basically your normal fight mode. You start off by choosing your character then fight in 10 rounds until you get to the final battle which just happens to be a big dragon(surprise). Once you defeat the final boss you are treated to a montage of your characters past. This will annoy anybody that doesn't know Mortal Kombat history because after spending your time fighting all those enemies all you get is an unanimated scene showing a important event that most won't care about. This mode is also Live playable.

Chess Kombat

This is one of the most brilliant ideas for a fighting game I have every experienced. You have to create a team which extends to a Leader(king), Champion(queen), Sorcerer(bishop), Shifter(knight) and Grunt(pawn). Once in the game it is your job to KILL the other teams Leader while protecting yours. The catch is you have to fight for you squares which means even if you have lost every one as long as you can beat the whole other team with just your leader then you will be sweet. You can use all unlocked characters to build your team so you never need to play with the same guys over and over again. This mode is Live playable.

Puzzle Kombat

This has to be(in my opinion) one of the worst gametypes I have ever played. All it is is a boring version of tetris with Mortal Kombat characters down the bottom. There is no explanation for this gametype its just TETRIS. This mode is also Liveplayable.

Konquest

This is where the future of this series lies, if it fails Mortal Kombat will just be another fighter, If it is good then Mortal Kombat could become serious for years to come. To bad it fails. In konquest mode you start of as a young boy dreaming of becoming the Mortal Kombat champion(corny) and after you recieve a quest from the elder gods(dont read anything into the name)you end up just running around finding warriors, sparing with warriors, fighting with warriors and passing on messages. The one thing that really ruins this is it just feels so stiff and boring there is no real variety or fun. This is the story mode and should take about 15hrs to complete and once you complete you will not want to play this game for a while. It could have been great but ended been a sad excuse for A MK rpg. The worst thing about Konquest is that there are plenty of sidequests to do that will help you unlock characters and earn things to help you out but theres no journal telling you what quests you are attempting or where to go to collect your reward so unless you write them down you will need an extremely good memory to know what you are doing. This mode is also the only way to unlock characters so whether or not you can be bothered sitting through this its the only way to get the characters so you cant stand up and take your place online.

Graphics + Sound

If you have played any previous incarnations of Mortal Kombat you will have experienced the over the top violence and brutal, disturbing sound effects. This has all been expanded with the sarcotic violent person in mind. The levels now show wear and tear as you continuely pound someones body into as well do the characters. There is nothing better then showing off after your match covered in blood and bruises. As well as crispy looking graphics nearly all levels are muliti leveled(meaning you can smash your opponents through the floor) or have death traps which is an instant kill for anyone unlucky enough to get close. Dont expect a beautiful game like DOA but expect a dark and gritty fighter.

Final words......

All in all if you want a solid reliable fighter with relatively lag free live, extremely violent and fun characters and more blood then you could shake a stick at then, Then this here is the game for you.

Good: Characters are well structured and play easily. no juggling, even characters, 700+ unlockables. Unlockable charcters are worth it, Not for the kiddies.
Bad:TETRIS,Koquest mode, Is it really new, Dead live community. Overshadowed by DOA
