Xbox 360: Where the real footballing action lives!
The FIFA-sponsored event reached its spectacular conclusion in Amsterdam on December 9, when the Netherlands’ Andries Smit faced down an inspired challenge from Austria’s Wolfgang Meier. The 6:4 final scoreline only hints at the fireworks that exploded when the metaphorical “unstoppable force” met the proverbial “immoveable object”!Curiously, neither Andries nor Wolfgang chose their national teams, preferring Brazil and Barcelona instead. So much for national pride... Barcelona scored quickly with a blistering effort after only three minutes, but the Brazilians replied just over ten minutes later. After that the goal-storm commenced and we saw two distinct styles emerge, with Meier’s long-ball strategy eventually crumbling under Smit’s more structured assaults down the wing. “I’m absolutely amazed, stunned and delighted!” said Smit, “...I’m leaving here with the title and a trip to Zurich to the FIFA World Player Gala!I can’t believe it!” We bet you can’t either, Andries. With that $20,000 prize in our pockets we’d probably feel the same way too! Elsewhere there was footballing fun of a different variety when France/Olympique Marseille/ex-Liverpool striker, Djibril Cissé, played ten star-struck gamers at FIFA 07 and Pro Evolution Soccer 6. MTV competition winner, Armel Vittini and her friend got to play the star face-to-face, while eight of Armel’s other chum’s joined in on Xbox Live.“Meeting Cissé was incredible! He’s a great football player on the pitch and on the Xbox 360!” Armel commented – very charitably, given that Cissé beat her every single time! Ah yes, the 360 and Xbox Live really are the only places to offer this sort of footballing action. Did we already mention that? |
