Shared PC Connection: Troubleshooting Connect Status Screen Error Messages

This error can occur if your computer is not turned on, or if you are using the wrong type of cable to connect your Xbox console to your computer.Verify that you are using a crossover and not a straight-through Ethernet cable to connect the Xbox console to the computer. Also, verify that you are using an Ethernet cable and not another type of cable (such as an RJ-11 phone cord). Note: To distinguish between a crossover cable and a straight-through cable, hold both ends of the cable with the bottoms facing up (copper connectors showing), and look at the order (left to right) of the colored wires in the clear plastic connectors. A standard straight-through Ethernet cable has the wires in the exact same order at both ends. In a crossover cable, the order of the colored wires is different on each end. The IP addresses you entered into the Network Settings area of the Xbox Dashboard may be incorrect.
