Arcade spies Monkey Island

LucasArts’ original and most famous adventures of wannabe pirate Guybrush Threepwood are now on Xbox LIVE Arcade. The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition looks shinier than a treasure trove and sounds merrier than pirate song in its newly re-imagined form for Xbox 360. Lower the gang plank for high definition graphics, a re-mastered musical score, and full voiceover starring the original cast.

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition

The Secret of Monkey Island originally harboured on PC in 1990. It tells the tale of young Guybrush Threepwood whose lifelong dream is to become a pirate. One day Guybrush gets his wish, but the whole pirate business isn’t nearly what he expects. Of course this makes it so much more interesting for you and me, “Insult Sword-fighting” is only the start of crazy activities waiting for our constantly bewildered hero.

Before reaching Monkey Island we begin on the mysterious Caribbean island of Mêlée where Guybrush first encounters his sweetheart Governor Elaine Marley. Unfortunately she has also stolen the heart of ghost pirate LeChuck, who has her whisked away to Monkey Island. And from hereon in it just gets better and better!

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition isn’t the only reason to get excited about Xbox LIVE at the moment. The “1 vs. 100 (beta) Season 1” is now underway, airing 7.30-9.30pm Fridays and Saturdays, presented by live host James McCourt. “1 vs. 100 (beta) Season 1” is a first-of-its-kind online quiz show that’s free to all our Gold subscribers. This weekend (17-19 July) we’re throwing open the doors to our Silver members too, so everyone can join in the fun.

Check back next week for more Xbox LIVE Arcade news here on Xbox.com. Meantime be sure to have the most fun possible or even impossible.
