When videogames attack…

We’ve something very old and something dazzlingly new on Xbox LIVE Arcade this week. But age before beauty, right?

Graphics may do more than anything else to betray a game’s age but great gameplay never dies, and there’s plenty of that where our first offering is concerned. You may not have been on the planet when Tron first hit the arcades (1982!) but we’ll wager you’re familiar with the classic film in which Jeff Bridges is sucked into a videogame. Hey, it could happen!

The four games collected here are pretty classic too, each being based on scenes from the movie. The I/O Tower and MCP Cone levels will challenge your shooting skills, while the famed Battle Tanks reappear in an enemy-filled labyrinth. However our favourite’s the Light Cycle game where the object is to head your opponents off in a nerve-shredding game of ‘chicken‘. Fun stuff - especially for gamers of a certain age! It’s just 400 MS Points to relive your misspent youths, guys.

It’s back to the 21^st century with a bang and a LIVE Arcade game with visuals to rival many retail releases - Omega Five. If you like your shooters fast, hard and good looking you’re going to need this beauty in your life - SOON! It’s a side-scrolling blast set in a far flung HD future where you’re tasked with defeating an invasion of evil robotic aliens. Okay, it’s not the most original storyline ever devised, but you’ll soon forget about that when faced with a killer challenge, an explosive arsenal and an onslaught of cunning adversaries that attack from all sides - including the background. There’s a local two-player option too, so you needn’t fight alone. 800 Points is all we ask. Take a look if you think you’re tough enough!
