Please read the following two sentences very carefully and deliberately: Taito’s “Space Invaders Extreme” has arrived on Xbox LIVE Arcade. It is an absolutely outstanding game that you simply must play. Thank you, now let’s move on.
Space Invaders Extreme celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the game that pretty much started it all. Yes, 30 years. Not long after we put a man on the moon. Incredible though that still is (putting a man on the moon!) it never gets old, and the same goes for Space Invaders – even without the kind of overhaul it has received here in Space Invaders Extreme. Move and shoot, that’s all you need to do, as the alien armada descends. However if you’re smart about it now there are ways to earn bonus power-ups and enter bonus rounds.
The power-ups include Wide Shot and Super Laser Blast, awarded depending on the colour of the aliens you’ll need to shoot in quick succession. Think of it as scoring combos in a puzzle game, only moving and shooting. Easy, no? In fact, no! It’s really terribly tricky, but thankfully as many as four players can team up against the armada. However if you really enjoy pain, try battling each other for points while at the same time destroying aliens! With Score Attack, Arcade, Survivor and Endless co-op modes you’ll have so much fun you’ll actually time travel!
Next up from Taito is the original and best block-breaking game Arkanoid. Newly presented in beautiful high-definition with intriguing background movies to – we strongly suspect – spoil your concentration (!), Arkanoid delivers 120 stages of pure 1980s gaming genius. Enjoy in co-op and versus modes.
Last up we have Zombie Wranglers! A gang of kids must save the city of Potters Field from crazier than usual zombies. Like, these zombies were crazy before they became the living dead. You’ll need to master every tool in your Wrangler-Pack to contain the likes of Skater Zombie, Fast Food Zombie, and boarding and Soccer Mom Zombie.
