Halo Hero hailed!Halo’s enigmatic hero, Master Chief, has been immortalised at the Las Vegas Madam Tussauds waxwork museum. Now there’s a sure sign that videogaming has gone overground if ever we saw one! Master Chief is the first videogame icon to have his features enshrined like this. Then again with Halo 3 pre-orders already way past the million mark and untold legions of gamers around the world already converted to the Halo cause such recognition is long overdue, wouldn’t you say? We certainly think so!
But this is not the only honour to be bestowed on the Chief – his looming presence was officially unveiled by Pete Wentz, bass player, chief songwriter and full time dude with Grammy-nominated emo-rockers, Fall Out Boy. Pete, it turns out, is a self-confessed video game addict and a card-carrying member of the Halo Nation. “Master Chief is as much of a hero today as characters like Spiderman, Frodo and Luke Skywalker were for previous generations.” he said.We couldn’t agree more, Pete. Master Chief’s epic effigy has been recreated at life-size, according to Tussauds – and that’s a lofty 7’2” in case you were wondering. However his impressive physique is the least of his startling statistics – his construction took ten sculptors, over 1000 pounds of modelling materials and 892 man-hours to complete. Wow! Master Chief is sure to alarm a few visitors as he stands guard at the Vegas museum’s entrance, but he’ll be going on a tour of duty if Tussauds deem that consumer interest is strong enough. Well, we already know the answer to that one, right? That being the case keep an eye out for him in 2008 – by the sounds of it he won’t be hard to spot! Oh, and Halo 3 is out on September 26th. Did we already mention that...? |
