With Forza Motorsport 2 and Bioshock sitting in your collection and triple-A titles like Halo 3 on your shopping list we’re guessing you already know the answer to that question. We’re not boasting. Okay, maybe just a bit. Anyway, where videogame blockbusters are concerned we still have a few more aces up our sleeve this year, foremost of which is surely BioWare’s galaxy-spanning action/RPG, Mass Effect. It helps to imagine a thunder of drums while you’re saying it!
You’d better believe that this game has some serious provenance! Mass Effect comes from the makers of Xbox classics Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire, and has already garnered over 50 accolades, including the prestigious Game Critics Award for ‘Best Console Game’ and ‘Best RPG’ at the recent E3 show. Not bad for a game that isn’t even out yet. It also leads us very neatly to the crux of our announcement... And so prepare to polish-up your space boots and practice your conversational Asarian because Mass Effect is launching in Europe on… more thundering drums… November 23rd. “With Mass Effect BioWare is delivering an incredible next-gen gaming odyssey. Our fans will journey through a vast, futuristic universe as they are challenged to make impactful decisions that will determine the very fate of the galaxy,” says Ray Muzyka, BioWare’s chief executive officer, modestly neglecting to mention that it also features 12 character classes, 13 species of alien (not all are friendly either), a spookily realistic conversational system and some of the most beautiful visuals the Xbox 360 has ever seen.
