GDC gets into Gear

Three words – Game Developers Conference.  This industry event is generally the source of a decent gaming gem or two. So here are three more words and special bonus number – Gears of War 2!

Gears of War

That’s the biggest flag we’ve been waving at the GDC but we’re also shouting about Ninja Gaiden II, Fable 2 and more Xbox LIVE Arcade goodies than you can shake a stick at. However, first things first.

Gears of War 2 is an Xbox 360 EXCLUSIVE and follows the further exploits of Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad in an enticingly-described “epic saga of survival, loss and retribution”. That sounds excellent, but the game’s lead designer Cliff Bleszinski sums it up best: “Gears of War 2 is an even bigger, better and more badass experience than the first game, and we can’t wait to get it in the hands of eager gamers this November.” Okay Cliffy – it’s a date!

But there’s more. Peter Molyneux also dropped by to introduce a neat preview device for Fable 2 called “Pub Games”. This collection of fun minigames launches on Xbox LIVE Arcade later this year. Better still, any currency you amass within can be transferred into Fable 2 when it launches. It’s like money in the bank from the outset.

Not to be outdone Team Ninja’s Tomonobu Itagaki revealed several novel features for Ninja Gaiden II, including ‘Ninja Cinema’, which lets players record their stunning action sequences (and there’ll be plenty of those) and share them via Xbox LIVE. How cool is that?

Then we have action/thriller Too Human on show, proud and very loud, and a fistful of new LIVE Arcade titles with exciting names like ‘Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness’. But more on all the above soon – promise. Maybe sooner than you think too…!
