Bomberman and Yie Ar Kung Fu strike Xbox LIVE Arcade

Decide whether you’re a bombs or fists kind of guy this week as two major action titles muscle their way onto Xbox LIVE Arcade.

For nearly 25 years the legendary Bomberman has been giving friends the opportunity to blow each other to pieces in one of gaming’s best-loved action puzzle games. Released this week on XBLA, Bomberman Live (800 MS points) is a brand new entry to the series created by developer Hudson Entertainment specifically for Xbox 360. Boasting high-definition graphics and multiplayer for up to four players locally, you can also challenge up to seven friends across Xbox LIVE.

Bomberman LIVE

Gameplay is based upon the classic Bomberman theme in which players compete to be the last (Bomber)man standing by furiously laying timed bombs to eliminate competitors while trying to grab as many of the 16 different power-ups as quickly as possible. Battles take place across eight distinctive environments, offering players the chance to fully customise their character with both co-ordinated costumes and mix-and-match items of clothing. With over 10,000 possible costume variations Bomberman Live promises to be the coolest version of this beloved franchise.

For gamers wanting to fight via more orthodox methods, Yie Ar Kung Fu (400 MS points) from Konami offers a pixel-perfect take on the traditional martial arts tournament. Originally released in 1985 into arcades the game follows cute but menacing Chinese fighter Oolong as he battles to become the ultimate champion by taking on 11 different fighting masters.

Presented in two flavours – the authentic arcade version and a graphically-enhanced mode – Yie Ar Kung Fu is one of the best-loved 2D fighting games of the 80s. The game's lost none of its appeal; facing off against these varied opponents is still one of the most enjoyable battles of skill and reaction that videogames have to offer.
