Remember how Gears of War exceeded expectation? Remember that no matter how stupendous it looked upon each Earth-shattering reveal before release, when we finally got our hands on the beast it defied all laws of possibility? Well this is happening again. On 7 November 2008 Gears of War 2, sequel to Epic Games’ 2006 monster hit, is rolling out exclusively to Xbox 360. You think it looks far-fetched? Well, you really ain’t seen nothing yet!
Epic Games’ design director supreme Cliff ‘Cliffy B’ Bleszinski is showing off his team’s latest masterpiece during E3 this week – the Electronic Entertainment Expo, going down in Los Angeles USA. No doubt you already read reports and saw footage of the brutal new multiplayer scenarios, well Mr B has another surprise in store: five-player co-operative multiplayer gameplay in the new “Horde” mode.
Horde places the emphasis on teamwork, requiring team tactics that highlight some of the new abilities and associated tools or weapons in the game. You’ll be rewarded for team play as opposed to rushing into the fray as the attention-seeking hero. It’s the only way to defeat the more in number and increasingly brutal enemies rushing your base. Your buddies won’t thank you for messing up the ‘play’ in “Horde”. Being selfish only brings you pain – in the game or from your pals in the real world!
Gears of War 2 is Gears of War squared: sublime visuals incorporating brutal action and lush locations; a storyline that’ll grip you by the throat and chill you to the bone; unprecedented visceral combat that allows using your weakened enemy as a shield, clashes of chainsaws, and melee attacks on downed foes. You can now crawl to safety while injured, but there’s rarely a good place to run and hide.
