In case you missed it, Halo 3 is out this week. We’re not really sure how Xbox.com continued to be updated as regularly as usual – mainly because we just can’t stop playing Halo 3. Even as I write this, I’m looking on enviously at Graeme (gamertag: AceyBongos) doing his best to take down a massive Scarab tank on his own. In each other iteration of the Halo series, the best way to play it has always been sat with a friend, some snacks and a big TV and burning through the game in co-op. With Halo 3, you’ll be able to play with four friends at any time over Xbox LIVE. Now you can make the most of a full screen to yourself while you and your friends take on the Halo campaign together over LIVE.
There are a few changes from Halo 2 – you no longer control the Arbiter in any of the single player levels, he’s now one of your co-op buddies. It’s all Master Chief this time, and you’ve got all the weapons from Halo and Halo 2 coupled with some awesome new ones like a dual wieldable Brute shotgun. Rather good at mopping up the flood, although if you’re really looking for a good way to clear out a crowded area, there’s nothing better than ripping a mounted weapon from its position and walking in with some heavy artillery to help out any friends caught in the fire fight. Multiplayer modes promise more than ever before, with all of the refinements from the singleplayer campaign applied. The new guns and the new vehicles are both there to play with and the perfect balancing from the first two games remains as sharp as ever.
