Last week we talked about Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, a gripping (excuse the pun) adventure taking place in a captivating fantasy universe. This week we face the harsh reality of World War II with Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway, specifically a landmark campaign called Operation Market Garden.
As with Force Unleashed, BIA engages you in the heat of breathtaking battles. Difference is you know that this drama was real. I have never experienced a more moving depiction of war in a videogame. Development studio Gearbox consulted with war veterans to ensure that Brothers in Arms Hell’s Highway respects what truly happened in Holland in September 1944. The result can only be admired. Playing BIA for any length of time is honestly rather harrowing. You must think strategically to accomplish every goal because you feel that your life depends on it! So I’m glad to have Disney’s larger-than-life off-road racer, Pure, to lift my spirits. Which it does with panache by raising my mud-splattered body hundreds of meters off the ground while clinging to the handlebars of a quad bike! It’s a sensation the dev guys at Black Rock Studios have named Vertigo Rush. It feels like being in control of an all terrain rollercoaster. Until you fall off! There’s a similar rush to be had from THQ’s Baja: Edge of Control. While not quite so exaggerated as Pure, Baja includes a variety of challenges together with the vehicles required: 4x4s, Trophy Trucks and buggies. I guess if you’re a real ‘petrol head’ maybe Baja holds more for you. But if you want catapulting from the real world back into the realms of science fiction I can’t imagine anything more effective than Armored Core 4: Answer. This time we’re up against colossal, kilometres high, mobile weapons. Frankly it’s astonishing! Bye!
Out This Week Armored Core 4: Answer
