Archive | Killer vocals and awesome pyrotechnics
You might guess I’m going to rave about last night’s Rock Band performance (you should’ve been there). But no, I’m here to enthuse about the Ubisoft line-up fresh from the annual ‘Ubidays’ conference.
Ubisoft has blockbusters in spades, and I need them ASAP. Two new Tom Clancy games End War and H.A.W.X, flanked by classy FPS titles Brothers In Arms: Hell’s Highway and Far Cry 2, and the return of personal faves Prince of Persia and Soulcalibur. First up, End War! You control the action almost entirely using your voice. It’s a real time strategy game based that places you in the heat of the action; ground level with your units, scanning the horizon for hostiles via mobile cameras. When you’re under attack you feel the impact, and the biggest explosions make you shield your eyes! H.A.W.X. is all about modern jet fighters in massive-scale aerial battles. I braved the skies above Rio de Janeiro, depticted in stunning detail thanks to the GeoEye maps data. H.A.W.X. also incorporates voice commands for your wingmen and to operate the plane itself. Co-op skirmishes across LIVE will be something special. The trials of the new Prince of Persia are a closely guarded secret, apart from AI accomplice, Alika. She’s said to revolutionise the series in the same way that the Sands of Time did previously, helping the prince solve puzzles and defeat enemies. FPS leaders Far Cry 2 and Brothers in Arms elevate the genre to new levels in physics-based realism and tactical smarts respectively. Playing these really took it out of me! So I was glad of Soulcalibur IV as a frantic but fun treat between times. Playing as Yoda is an unbeatable experience for fighting fans and Star Wars aficionados alike. Megatons to look forward to from Ubisoft this year!
Out This Week Ninja Gaiden 2
