It’s a great year for summer blockbusters in the cinema – we’ve already had Spider-Man 3 and the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie and there are plenty more to come. The one we’re anticipating the most here in the Xbox offices is Transformers the movie, due for release across Europe over the next couple of weeks.

Blockbuster films lead to blockbuster games and Transformers is one of the most promising to come out this year. Developed by the same team that brought us Lego Star Wars II, it takes all of the heavy metal action and puts you in the driving seat. You can play as either the Autobots or the evil Decepticons with a selection of Transformers available to you, from the speedy Jazz to the raw power of Optimus Prime.

Fully destructible scenery makes for a great atmosphere as you pick up the rubble and throw it at your enemies while the action ensues. You can transform between vehicle and robot form whenever you like, making for some fast-paced game play as you chase down your objectives.

Transformers is the latest in a bumper crop of great games based on films this year – Spider-Man 3 already provides an epic map of Manhattan to web sling your way around. Add to that Pirates of the Caribbean 3 which charts the full course of the movie with some fun hack n slash action and you’ve got a blockbuster console with Xbox 360.
