We’ve all had a week to get used to living with Halo 3 now – how’s it been for you? It’s been a whirlwind for us. Halo 3 has broken all kinds of records, taking $170 million in sales inside 24 hours Stateside – that’s more than blockbusters like Spider Man 3 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows! It’s beaten Halo 2’s record on Xbox LIVE too, with 2.4 million multiplayer games logged on day one. Yes, we’re predicting great things for this title.
There’s plenty more fun besides Halo 3, though – but you’d be forgiven for thinking otherwise this last week. Sports fans already have FIFA 08 and Skate to busy themselves with, and this Friday sees the release of NBA Live 08. This latest outing ups the ante in terms of sheer authenticity and introduces cool analogue elements into the game, such as ‘Quickstrike Ballhandling’ where all your crowd-pleasing manoeuvres are mapped to the right analogue stick. It makes for intuitive and stunningly realistic gameplay. Surely all that’s missing now is a pair of outsize sneakers? But NBA Live 08 is just the latest in a veritable storm of brilliant games, which broke with Bioshock, reached a swirling vortex of excellence with Halo 3 and looks set to rumble on. PGR4 screeches into view shortly, promising an ‘emotional’ experience and Call of Duty 4 thrillingly brings the fight to the modern era. Then there’s The Orange Box, Army of Two, Kane and Lynch, Mass Effect, Halo Wars, Fable 2... We could continue... Out This Week on Xbox 360: • NBA Live 08 |
