X06 motivated by F.E.A.R.

Don’t stop, keep moving, watch your step, and watch your back. The F.E.A.R. experience is relentlessly intense. Although you must proceed with intelligence, missions are paced at the opposite end of the spectrum to tactical first-person-shooters such as Rainbow Six.

Even when you’re trying to catch your breath in F.E.A.R. the enemy is following instructions to engage and so ruthlessly hunts you down – coming ready or not. This is billed by Monolith as first-person close-quarters combat, typified by claustrophobic encounters in massively destructible environments. Sinister intruders of a sprawling aerospace complex actively seek to outflank you using uncanny AI squad tactics, even more upsetting is that they’ll beat a tactical retreat if you gain the advantage. The impression of locking horns with fearsome intelligence is sensational.

F.E.A.R.

As you may already know, a supernatural theme underpins the whole story here. So we greatly admire how F.E.A.R. on Xbox 360 employs High Dynamic Range lighting (which enables pitch black shadows contrasting with blinding light) to create tension, not just for the sake of including the latest visual effects. Similar to a theme park ride, visitors to Monolith’s eerie game world become unsettled by the contrast of silence and darkness versus deafening noise and brightness of a fire fight.

Our favourite toys for keeping the ghouls at bay include the Penetrator (a hefty gun that fires spikes) and Reflex meter that throws all except you into slow-mo for a while. Instant Action mode, created for Xbox 360, is the ideal playground to challenge your performance and unlock Achievements for bragging rights on Xbox Live.

Vivendi hopes to keep F.E.A.R. at the top of Xbox Live most-played, and we strongly believe it deserves the opportunity.
