Assassin’s Creed anointed at X06

Few games on show at X06 are more mouth watering than Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed, the long awaited public airing of the game announced as ‘Project Assassin’ last year at X05. Ubisoft’s prestigious Montreal studio (Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia) is in creative control, shooting for an experience to rival epic novels and films. It’s been no small task.

“We've taken one of the most senior teams in the industry and challenged them to redefine action gameplay for Next Generation Systems,” producer Jade Raymond told Xbox.com this week, “These are our creative best, they have all worked together before and they each have over eight years worth of ideas that they are anxious to put into practice now that the consoles have caught up.”

Given the phenomenal technical and gameplay achievements in games such as Splinter Cell, you can only wonder at what these guys are planning for Assassin’s Creed. According to Jade, “The team decided to focus on crowd and freedom of movement to deliver new emergent types of gameplay. These elements are pretty cool on their own but the magic lies in how they come together and will immerse you into the Assassin’s Creed world.”

The Assassin’s Creed demo is brief at X06, but Jade shed some light on what’s to come. “We’ve taken a new approach to storyline by choosing to focus on mature themes that are relevant to every player,” said Jade, “As you assassinate the people responsible for the horrors of the third crusade; you also uncover a plot with much greater and far reaching implications. I don’t want to reveal too much but suffice to say that the conspiracy even touches on subjects that are relevant to you and I.”
