Firefights have never felt more real than in the Electronic Arts Battlefield series. If you desire the ultimate team-based shoot-outs, few would tell you to hunt any further.
With teamwork at its core, Battlefield 2: Modern Combat’s multiplayer gaming modes have represented the bleeding edge on original Xbox and Xbox Live. Now the much improved follow-up is coming to Xbox 360, providing a deep and cinematic single player thrill ride to boot.
Battlefield: Bad Company has been designed specifically to push next-generation console power to the limit. Meaning that you’re going to see something extra special on Xbox 360 next year when the game is planned for release. Although Battlefield on Xbox 360 with Xbox Live is sure to deliver the finest online multiplayer imaginable, development studio Digital Illusions is keen to stress the immersive single player aspects too – “loaded with adventure and dark humour”, we are told.
Recreating the heart-in-mouth, anything-could-happen thrill of Battlefield’s celebrated multiplayer campaigns is crucial to Bad Company. Dropped behind enemy lines with your squad of unruly firebrands, the mission this time around is purely personal – a lust revenge and the opportunity to get rich.
Both the single and multiplayer games take place in a world that’s 90 per cent destructible, forcing an ever-changing war zone. Adapting to your environment will be the key to success, whether assisted by real-life buddies or the uncanny AI of your computer-controlled team. And, yes, the awesome vehicles will be back for tactical supremacy in the air or for extra muscle on the ground.
Battlefield: Bad Company is slated to ship for the Xbox 360 in 2007.
