Free Retrofit for Wireless Racing Wheel

Updated June 2009

As a precautionary measure, Microsoft Corporation is voluntarily providing its customers with a free retrofit to the Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel. The Wheels were manufactured during 2006 - August 2007. A component in the Wheel chassis may in rare cases overheat and release smoke when the AC/DC power supply is used to energize the Wheel.

Is it safe to use my Wireless Racing Wheel?
There have been no reported incidences of fire, personal injury or property damage due to the Wheel malfunction. Despite no known safety incidents, we are advising our customers about this because of our strong commitment to ensuring that our products are safe and perform to our design specifications.
However, we recommend you stop using the AC/DC power supply with your Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel until you've obtained the retrofit. You may continue to operate the Wheel using battery power. While operating in battery mode, the force feedback feature will not be available. Once retrofitted, you may run the Wheel using AC power and reactivate this feature.

How do I know if I need the retrofit?
The retrofit of the Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel is only required on product with SKU numbers 9Z1-00001, 9Z1-00002, 9Z1-00003, 9Z1-00004, 9Z1-00009, 9Z1-00011, 9Z1-00012, 9Z1-00013, 9Z1-00017, 9Z1-00018 and Wheel part numbers X809211-001, X809211-002, X809211-003, X809211-004, X809211-005.

The SKU number can be found on a label on the bottom side of the retail carton and the Wheel part numbers are found on a label on the bottom side of the dashboard assembly. Any SKU or Wheel not included in this list will not require the retrofit.

How can I request a retrofit for my Wireless Racing Wheel?
Contact Xbox Support if your Wireless Racing Wheel matches one of the SKU or part numbers above. One of our agents will be able to discuss the program with you and arrange to exchange your Wireless Racing Wheel. In the meantime, only use your Wireless Racing Wheel in battery mode.
