| Canadian Gamer Spotlight – LeadingSnake
We’ve been away for a short spell, but the Canadian Gamer Spotlight is back on track, and I couldn’t be more excited with our next nominee. If you are even peripherally involved on our Canadian Xbox forums, you have without a doubt run into LeadingSnake. This gamer from Prince Edward Island is a force to be reckoned with in our forums – if you want something done, and done right, he’s your man! After volunteering as my own personal DOA sensei (he thinks I need practice with my blocking or something…as if, I button mash my way to victory), he is currently working with XCT (Xbox Canadian Tournaments) to get a killer Gears tournament together…But I forced him to take a break to answer my questions. Jade: I think we get along so well because we share a common addiction to Gears. How long have you had this infatuation with your Xbox 360? LeadingSnake: I’ve been a proud Xbox 360 owner since December 27th, 2005, and a first gen Xbox owner since June 2003. I’ve been on Xbox Live ever since I got my 360. I guess it’s mostly because I’ve never been able to get a good Internet hookup until then. Jade: Ah broadband, it’s one of the reason’s I love living in Canada. So how did you land upon the Xbox Canadian community scene? LS: I remember this like it was yesterday…April 2006: I checked out the DOA4 forums trying to get some fighting tips, (thanks to them I’m able to hold my own in DOA lol) I do a search and come across a Canada General Discussion forum. I never knew this section existed, and since then, I’ve never posted anywhere else. Jade: Lucky for us! Whatwas your favourite moment/event/happening as part of the Xbox community in Canada this year? LS: This is a tough one-I wish I could choose in the three way tie: getting our first Canadian Gamer Spotlight; getting a Gears of War faceplate (thanks Jade!) or X’06 Toronto. Hmm…I guess I’ll go with the first Canadian Gamer Spotlight, because it was one of the community’s biggest happenings as a whole. Don’t forget to keep this going! Jade: What do you like best about the Xbox Canada community? LS: The people who make it great. Everyone who’s a part of this is always great to be around, the forums are always a great place to be. You can make some new friends, find out some tips on the latest games (I’m going to get in on the Viva Piñata craze-My curiosity is killing me) and more. Jade: I never thought I would say this, but I am a serious Pinata addict. When you get going, I can hook you up JHow did you get started with XCT? LS: A month or so back, I started up a Dead or Alive 4 Tournament. It was something minor, I never expected it to be the beginnings of something huge. As various community members offered their support (including yourself), the project began to grow. Greenskull then asked me if I had planned on any other tournaments, because he would help out even if he did not have DOA4. I hadn’t thought of doing another tournament at the time, but it seemed like such an awesome idea. After plenty of discussion and ideas, XCT was born. Jade: I love that you have all come together to get this going for our community. How can gamers get involved with XCT? LS: It’s easy; if there’s a tournament going on that you would like to be a part of, just send an XCT member (either myself, Greenskull, PGT2 Turbo or SOS bAtToUsAi) a message over Xbox Live and we’ll be happy to get you registered as soon as possible. Don’t worry; we usually tend to be pretty quick about this. If you decide you would like to help out with the tournaments themselves, that’s great too. Any help is appreciated. Many of those who help out get added to the “Supporters” section of the site, while others may be given the opportunity to be part of XCT full-time. Jade: You have some mad gaming skillz, we were completely at the mercy of your chainsaw last week (grrrrr). Have you ever played video games competitively? LS: I’ve been in quite a few actually. My most recent was a Prey tournament and I placed 5th overall. I’ve also played in a Halo 2 tournament, a Perfect Dark Zero tournament, a few DOA4 tourneys and Rainbow Six 3 among others. There are even such things as multi-game tourneys; I even managed to win a few of those. Jade: What is your favorite Xbox 360 game right now? LS: No contest-Gears of War! Jade: Yes, I suppose I should have guessed that. Favorite Xbox game? LS: Halo 2-Always fun with a couple of friends. I have to get a new copy though……… Jade: But what about your favorite video game of all time? LS: Super Mario Bros for the SNES. It’s what got me started on gaming, and I think that I might have been the youngest person ever to have actually beaten it… Jade: If you were stranded on a desert island, what would you bring to entertain yourself? LS: I’m going for an E-rating here…….An igloo, to make me feel like I might be back in Canada lol Jade: We missed you at X'06, any plans to come to X'07? LS: That’s always good to hear! I was willing to go every mile, every inch to get me there this year, but it just couldn’t happen. This time around though, as long as I’m still around and kicking by then, there’s no way I’m going to miss Halo 3, Dark Sector and Too Human. Count me in! Jade: Any New Year's Resolutions you want to share? If coming to X’07 doesn’t count, then my New Year’s Resolution would be to some how, some way, make a difference in the Xbox Canada Community. Very noble - we need to clone you, Snake. To get more info on the Canadian Gears tournament, hit the forums for the deets.
