One For The History Books: X'08 Canada

Every year there is only one place to see all of the hottest games coming out the fall/ Holiday season, and that is Xbox Canada’s annual X’0 event!

X’08 Canada was no exception – in fact, this year’s X’0 event was the largest that we’ve ever put on! With over 40 unreleased titles running on more than 70 Xbox 360 consoles, no one else holds a show like this.

As soon as you walked in the doors, you could hear the sound of all the games being played and people talking excitedly. You could see the green lights that bathed the main show area, and the blood red light that drenched the Gears of War 2 zone.

All the sure-fire big hits were there, like Call of Duty: World at War (Activision), Rock Band 2 (EA/MTV Games), PURE (Disney Interactive Studios), Fable II (Microsoft Game Studios), and Fallout 3 (Bethesda). No to mention games like Wanted (Universal Studios Games), Guitar Hero: World Tour (Activision) and Naruto: Broken Bond (Ubisoft).

It was like a massive video game buffet – games in all flavours, shapes and sizes. Games for the kiddies like Bolt (Disney Interactive Studios) based on the upcoming animated feature film, games for the big kids like Tomb Raider: Underworld and games not for kids in any way shape or form, like Silent Hill: Homecoming (Konami). Games to play on your own, games that will be mad fun on Xbox LIVE and games that you’ll want to have all your friends over to play, like Lips and You’re In The Movies from Microsoft Game Studios and High School Musical 3: Senior Year DANCE! (Disney Interactive Studios).

But among all the games, many being shown for the first time ever in Canada, there was nothing that even came close to the awesomeness of meeting new folks from the great Xbox community that we have in Canada. (Okay, playing Gears of War 2 with Cliff Blezsinki comes pretty close...)

We had community members join us from as far away as Vancouver, Calgary, and Ottawa, and a ton of great people who were local to the extended Toronto area. It was amazing to catch up with guys I hadn’t seen in a long while like Greenskull and Sinnix, and hang out with community members I’d never met before like the fellas from the SBC.

Thank you to everyone who came out to make this year’s event the best yet – huge thanks to the developers and publishers for coming to Toronto to show off the best their studios have to offer, thanks to the event team for making sure every detail was perfect and, of course, thank you to every single member of the Xbox community who posted in the forums, attended the event and made it an absolutely unforgettable evening!
