The new Escalation DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops has exclusively hit Xbox Live this week and the Xbox.ca community loves it. Featuring four new multiplayer maps and an epic Zombies expansion called Call of the Dead, this is one of the biggest DLC bundles ever released for Call of Duty ever.

The Xbox.ca community has been playing it all week and now we bring you their impressions of the DLC.

So, you want to know how to kill zombies on a Siberian outpost, celebrity style? If you've already bought the Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation map pack and have yet to try Call of the Dead, you and your friends are truly missing out. Why wouldn't you want to play as Sarah Michelle Gellar, Danny Trejo, Robert Englund or Michael Rooker as they battle hordes of the undead? Still not enough? Okay, we'll throw in the zombie grand-daddy himself, George A. Romero, to stalk your every turn.

My friends and I have already put in close to 30 hours playing this map alone. You'll face increasing zombies per round as you laugh at celebrity quips and try to aid the main cast from previous zombie maps. You'll need to complete various tasks to unlock achievements that become as challenging as they are hilariously ridiculous. Coupled with a monetary reward system per kill and a mystery box that offers special random weapons, I found it a challenging mode that's a fun distraction from the main multi-player features.

Still not convinced? how about a map track by Avenged Sevenfold to get that adrenaline pumping?

I don't always play Zombie Mode in Call of Duty, but when I do, I make sure my favourite band is in it. Finding out that Avenged Sevenfold had written a song for this map pack made the experience so much better. Having the ability to unlock Avenged Sevenfold's song, I'm Not Ready to Die, to be played in the background, has been my favourite CoD Zombies experience yet.

However, for me the meat and gravy of any Call of Duty expansion pack is the additional multiplayer maps and I must say, I was impressed with this map pack overall. The new maps feel quite large and have a lot of open space which means that strategy is of the utmost importance. Teams require excellent communication and tactics as to not get caught off guard in the new spaces.

If I had to pick a favourite new map, it would have to be Hotel. There are several excellent vantage points and multiple routes in and out of almost every room. If there's one thing I can't stand in FPS games, it's players who camp. While open spaces may encourage players to snipe, I feel that the size of these maps will require players to stay on the move to hunt their prey.

Call of Duty's Zombies have had me hooked since World at War. Call of the Dead has been no exception. The opening cut scene was nicely done, the writing is brilliant and the voice acting is great. Sarah Michelle Gellar sounds just like she did when she was on Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. In fact, every character says things that relate to the work they are best known for doing. Take Robert Englund's (Freddy Krueger) war cry for example, "I'M YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE!"

The big difference with Call of the Dead mechanically is the addition of George A Romero as a big boss zombie that slowly moves towards the players. He walks slowly, but if you don't pay attention he can sneak up on you. This reminds me of classic horror villains who catch up to the protagonist after they make some fatal mistake.

The best part about Call of the Dead is the goal of helping the original characters from previous zombie modes. They are trapped and your goal is to help them get free. This adds a lot more purpose to the familiar game elements. I plan on playing this for a long time to come and welcome anyone to join me.

I have spent some time with the newest Zombies map, Call of the Dead and it has been a great experience overall. While it is more of the same, Treyarch never fails to add that extra something that makes you want to keep playing. The addition of real life actors as playable characters, legendary director George Romero as an enemy, the huge environment and new features are all brilliant. There are plenty of extra goodies included that makes this new Zombies map worth the price in itself, then you also get 4 new multiplayer maps in case you ever get tired of chasing the Call of the Dead.
