Connect to Digital Audio

If your system (typically, a receiver or amplifier or an advanced television) has a Toslink optical digital audio input, you can connect the Xbox 360™ console to digital audio rather than to a system's standard left/right analog audio inputs. The console's digital audio output should produce higher-quality sound.

To connect the Xbox 360 console to digital audio:

  1. Connect the Xbox 360 Component HD AV cable or S-Video AV cable to video as described in Connect to Audio/Video: Component Video or Connect to Audio/Video: S-Video.
  2. Connect a Toslink digital audio cable (not included) between the digital audio output on the console end of the AV cable's AV connector and the digital audio input on your receiver or TV.

  3. Turn on your console. From the System area, you can change your audio and digital output settings. Select the appropriate digital audio setting for your system.
