BigPond Broadband ADSL
Before you start, ensure that you have the following items:
- A working BigPond Broadband ADSL connection.
- Xbox Live Starter Kit
- A copy of an Xbox game that supports "Xbox Live" (Please check Xbox Live for games that are Xbox Livecapable).
- 1 x Ethernet cable (RJ45 cat 5). This cable will need to be long enough to reach from your PC to your Xbox.
Equipment set-up
1. Locate a spare Ethernet port on the back of the SpeedTouch 530 ADSL modem. *
*If you already have your PC plugged into the Ethernet port of your modem, then you will need to remove it to allow your Xbox to be connected. Before doing this validate that your Internet connection is operational by visiting a website from your PC. If you would like to use both your Xbox and PC at the same time then you will need to configure your PC to use the USB connection.
2. With an Ethernet network cable plug it into the Ethernet port as shown below:

3. Once the cable is plugged into your modem, plug the other end of the same cable into the Ethernet port on the back of the Xbox.
4. Now turn on the Xbox
5. Make sure there is no game disc in the tray
6. From the Xbox Dashboard, choose 'Settings and Network Settings'.
7. Select 'IP Addresses'. Change the configuration setting to 'Automatic'.
8. Select DNS Servers and change the configuration setting to 'Automatic'.
9. Select 'Advanced' and ensure that both the Host Name and the MAC address boxes are blank
10. Return to the Network Settings screen and select ‘Connect’. This will connect you to Xbox Live.
Your settings will now be used to connect. The progress will be displayed on the Connect Status screen. If the last bullet point says "Connected to Xbox Live" - congratulations! You are connected to Xbox Live. To create your Xbox Live account, or for more information about managing your account, see signing up for Xbox Live.
If your connection failed then it is necessary for you to check that your Internet Account is active. Do this by returning your PC and modem to their original configuration before you attempted to connect your Xbox. Now attempt to visit a website.
- If you cannot access the Internet and cannot make use of the BigPond online support options you can contact BigPond Broadband technical support on 133 933. To speed up trouble-shooting, please return your PC and modem to the BigPond supported configuration and have your account details with you when you call. Please note that BigPond technical support can only troubleshoot your broadband connection and cannot support set up and configuration of your XboxLive.
- If you have confirmed that your BigPond service is active then reconnect your Xbox and repeat steps 1 to 10
If your Xbox console is still unable to automatically connect see Troubleshooting Your Connection for more detailed information about the problem and the steps you can take to fix it.
