Account Management

Once you've created your Xbox Live account, check out these guidelines to get the most out of managing your account.

Pass Codes

A pass code is a four-button sequence on your controller - like a password, it protects your account from unwanted visitors. To set your pass code:

  1. Go to Account Management and select your Xbox Live account.
  2. Select Pass Code.
  3. Enter the new pass code you want. To disable pass code protection, enter a blank pass code.

Modifying Your Billing Information

To switch credit cards or update your billing information for any reason;

  1. Go to Account Management and select your Xbox Live account.
  2. Select Billing.
  3. Select Credit Card.

If your billing information is invalid due to an expired card, your access to Xbox Live will be suspended until you provide new card information in your billing profile.

You will need a standard Visa, MasterCard, or a debit card branded with a Visa or MasterCard logo - your account must be linked to a valid credit card. You will not incur any additional charges without your explicit consent for the duration of the 12 months of service.

If you want to use a debit card, a few restrictions apply:

  • Your debit card must have either a Visa or MasterCard logo.
  • Your debit card must not have restrictions on subscription-based or Internet purchases.
  • You must have more than 99 cents available in your debit card account.
  • The expiration date on your debit card cannot be the same month and year as the date you set up your account.

Renewing Your Subscription

When your current Xbox Live subscription expires, your subscription will automatically be renewed into a new subscription. If your credit card cannot be confirmed, you will be notified and you must update your billing information.

Note You may also need to update your credit card information to re-subscribe, particularly if your old credit card has expired.

With Xbox Live Now, the new Xbox Live Dashboard, you'll see more information about your current and next subscriptions, and be able to select other options for your next subscription plan.

To view your current subscription and options for subscription renewal:

  1. Go to Account Management and select your Xbox Live account.
  2. Select Subscription.
On the Subscription screen, you'll see details about your existing and next Xbox Live subscriptions.
  3. If you want to see other subscription options or change your next subscription, select Modify.
  4. Enter the last four digits of your billed credit or debit card.
  5. Select Subscription Code, and then Monthly or Annually.

Cancelling Your Account

If you do not want to continue your Xbox Live subscription, please follow the steps below:

  • Go to Account Management
  • Select the Subscriptions tab.
  • Select the cancel button next to the Modify button.

If you require further assistance, please contact Xbox Customer Support on 1800 555 741.

Opting In or Out of Information Sharing

You have the opportunity to opt in or opt out of getting more information from Microsoft and third-party publishers. If you opt in, you'll receive regular communications from Xbox Live about new games, content downloads, tournaments, events, competitions, and more. If you opt out, you won't.

To opt in or out:

  1. From the Xbox Dashboard, select Xbox Live.
  2. Select Account Management.
  3. Select Billing.
  4. Select your account and enter the last four digits of the credit card number used for that account.
  5. Select Information Sharing.

Choose Yes if you'd like to receive information about other products from Microsoft and our partners. Choose No if you don't want to receive this information.
