How to use the Account Recovery feature
The Account Recovery feature allows you to download your Xbox Live account to your console. When you download your account using Account Recovery, all other copies of that account are invalidated. For example, if you saved your account to an Xbox Memory Unit (MU), and you use Account Recovery to download your account to the console, you must recopy your account to the MU before you can use it to sign in again.
Account Recovery is useful in the following or similar situations:
You accidentally deleted your account from your Xbox console and want to recover it.
Your account is stored on an MU that was stolen, and you want to invalidate the account to prevent anyone from using that MU to sign in with your account.
You are at a friend's house. You want to sign in to Xbox Live with your own account, but you forgot to bring an MU that you stored your account on.
To use the Account Recovery feature use the following steps or watch the video demonstration.
You will receive the warning message: "Caution: If you recover an account, disconnected copies of the account will no longer work". This warning message is expected.
For security purposes, you must provide the following information to continue:
Gamertag
Credit card information (cardholder name and full credit card number)
Phone number
Postalcode
Important This information must match exactly the information entered when you first signed up for Xbox Live. It is possible that some information may not match. For example, if you previously entered “Lane” in the street address and now you enter “LN”, account recovery will fail due to this mismatch. Make sure you enter the exact same information that you entered when you first signed up.
Select Continue.
When your information is confirmed, your account is downloaded to the Xbox console.
If you use Account Recovery on someone else's Xbox console, repeat these account recovery steps on your own console to invalidate the use of your account elsewhere.
Note When you download your account to one console, your account is invalidated on every other console at that time. You cannot use one account at two locations at the same time.
