Each Xbox DVD Movie Playback Kit is made for a particular geographic region. You may be using a DVD from a region that is incompatible with your Xbox DVD Movie Playback Kit.

Australian and New Zealand DVD players are coded as region 4 and they play only region 4 DVDs. You need an Australian or New Zealand Xbox video game system and a region 4 Xbox DVD Movie Playback Kit to play a region 4 DVD. A region number should be indicated on every DVD disc and Xbox DVD Movie Playback Kit.

Note: When you install the infrared receiver for your Xbox DVD Movie Playback Kit in your Xbox console, the playback kit permanently codes the Xbox console for the region indicated on the Xbox DVD Movie Playback Kit package. After the infrared receiver is installed, you can play only DVDs from the encoded region or DVDs without regional coding. You cannot play DVDs from other regions.
