What is the Office of Film and Literature Classification Board?

The OFLC rating system is an unbiased, standardized way to help you determine whether an Xbox® or Xbox 360™ video game is appropriate for your child. Ratings are determined by the Office of Film and Literature (OFLC).

The Office of Film & Literature Classification is the Australian Government agency that administers the national classification scheme for all films, computer games and submittable publications that are exhibited, sold or hired in Australia.

Classification Board members are selected to broadly represent the people of Australia. They work in the Sydney-based Office of Film & Literature Classification (OFLC), close to major distributors and importers of films, publications and computer games.

In making classification decisions, the Boards are bound by the Classification (Publications, Films and Computer Games) Act 1995 and classification guidelines.

The OFLC has a Web site at http://www.oflc.gov.au so that parents and kids can access up-to-date rating information.

OFLC RATING SYMBOLS

	G - General The content is very mild.
	PG - Parental Guidence Recommened The content is mild.
	M - Recommended for mature audiences The content is moderate in impact.
	MA15+ Not suitable for people under 15. Under 15s must be accompanied by a parent or an adult guardian.

To take full advantage of the OFLC rating system, it's important to check both the rating symbol (on the front of the game box) and the content descriptors.

Are there parental control settings on the Xbox and Xbox 360 video game systems?

You can limit the type of content played on your Xbox video game system based on the OFLC rating level. By default, the Xbox and Xbox 360 video game systems are set to play all content. You can select separate parental control levels for games and DVD movies.

Xbox and Xbox 360 will play games and DVD movies that are rated at or below the selected level. For example, if the selected level is M, games rated G and PG will play in the system. If you choose any level other than ALL, you must select a pass code.
