Xbox Live Marketplace

Downloads

Q: I'm having trouble downloading game videos and demos from Xbox Live Marketplace. Why?

A: To help us pinpoint the cause of your trouble, please answer the following questions:

  1. Can you download the following files to your PC? Right-click and "save as" to a desired location on your hard drive:

    Note

These files are very large, so—depending on your connection—downloading them may take a while. The size of the files reflects the size of game demos or other content you may be interested in downloading from Xbox Live Marketplace.

  2. If you answered yes to the above, did the download occur at a rate appropriate to your high-speed Internet connection?
  3. Does the problem persist even when you establish a direct, wired Ethernet connection between your Xbox 360™ console and your modem or gateway?

To check this, disconnect all routers, switches, or other equipment (including any wireless devices) between your console and your Internet modem or gateway and use a standard Ethernet (RJ-45) cable to connect your console to your modem or gateway.

If you answered no to any of the above questions: please fill out the Xbox Live Marketplace Download Survey.

The data we collect will be shared with our partnered Internet service providers to help resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

If you answered yes to all questions: the problem you're experiencing is not related to the Xbox Live service or your ISP. Your problem stems from the specific configuration of your home network.

For troubleshooting assistance, please see Xbox Live Connection Methods or check out our Connectivity Wizard for guidance tailored to your Internet service provider and your networking equipment.

Premium Content

Q: Can I use my premium content from Xbox Live Marketplace on my friend's console?

A: Paid content from Xbox Live Marketplace is usable by all profiles on the Xbox 360 console to which it was first downloaded. If it is taken to another console (say, a friend’s console), it can only be used if the profile that it was first purchased with is logged in to the Xbox Live service from that console.

Family Settings

Q: How can I prevent my children from buying things at Xbox Live Marketplace?

A: You can set your Family Settings in the Xbox Dashboard to prevent purchases. With Xbox Live Controls in place, all Xbox Live Marketplace items are displayed as usual, but anyone who attempts to buy something while signed in with a child profile will be unable to make a purchase.

For details, see Family Settings: Xbox Live Content.

Note

There is one exception to this rule: Purchases that are made with prepaid codes are allowed regardless of whether Family Settings are in place.
