Halo Wars – Mission 1 Alpha Base 100% Walkthrough / Achievement Guide

This Walkthrough Covers:

• Kill 100 Grunts
• Everything's Better With Bacon (5 Points) Achievement
• 1^st Skull “Look Daddy”
• 1^st Black Box
• Level Passed with Gold score.

This walkthrough requires at least 2 Plays – assuming you have already played through the game once.

First thing is to set your difficulty to Legendary or Heroic, this will make it harder for your gunner to kill the grunts he shoots at. First run through you are aiming to ram 50 Grunts. I used Sergeant Forget the ram ability can only be used every 5 seconds or so as it has to charge up so you have to get out of range of the enemies so the gunner on the back of the warthog don’t kill them before you get a chance to ram again.

You have to move slowly as the gunner on the back of your warthog will fire at the enemy when you get close so you have to go on strafing missions and always go for the group of grunts first.

Select your warthog and move to the first location you will see a group of grunts attacking a warthog, move you curser over the group of grunts and (X or Y) will show up and you press (Y) on the group and your warthogs will drive over and ram them, once all enemies in this first fight are dead you save your first unit (1/4).

Make sure you only select Forge’s warthog and slowly move your way forward to the next spot down the road. You will cross over 2 bridges with 3 groups of 3 grunts along the way try and drive in and ram one and then get out quickly so you will end up with 1 left out of the 3 as the gunner would have killed one.

Keep going around and you will get your second group of warthogs to rescue  (2/4) there is a group of grunts here so go for them first, ram as many as you can, Make sure you drive in Ram a group and drive out as quickly as possible.

Move down the road and as you go down a ledge watch out as there are 2 groups of grunts in packs ram them and keep going you should come to some Ghosts just take them out and move on.

 You will come to your (3/4) group of marines to save. Drive in and ram the groups of grunts and let your gunner take out the mounted machine gun. Go over the bridge on your way to the covenant shield on the left hand side of the bridge there is a half yellow ramp that takes you down under the bridge and this is where your first Black Box is located.

Alpha base is just through the shield on your right, on the left of the shield you will get to save a few units of foot soldiers this is the final group (4/4). There are a few groups of enemies here take them out and get ready to go through the shield.

Once you get to Alpha base before going through the shield move all your units onto the bridge and select 2 groups off foot soldiers to take out the generator, once the generator is taken out move your units back to the other side of the bridge and only select Sergeant Forge and then continue with the strafing run.

You have to be very careful in this last area as there are Wraiths and they will be being attacked by your air force, if there are any groups of grunts near them ram them first.

You should be very close to ramming 50 Grunts by now do a few more strafing run’s and it you will get the achievement - Everything's Better with Bacon.

Now this last bit you have to be careful as there are only 102- 105 enemies in this first stage and once you kill them all the stage will end. Don’t worry if you don’t get it this run you can do it when you go on your gold run.

Once your grunt counter reaches 100 it will pop up on the screen, after this happens drive out of Alpha base. When you are at the shield move your camera around so the base is behind you and up to the right behind where all your saved units are. The skull will be glowing under the rubble on the edge of the map. Drive over the skull and the “Alas, Poor Andrew Thomas” achievement will pop up.

Now just go back into Alpha Base and kill the last remaining units and there you go, stage finished with 100 grunts killed and you have now collected the first skull and the first black Box.

Gold Score:

To obtain gold score for Alpha Base you to achieve a score of 27,000 or more plus pass the mission in under 12 minutes.

This is really easy to do as you have just gone through the stage you should know where all the groups of enemies are and when you save a group of units select all LB (Left Bumper) and continue on. Once you get into Alpha base kill as many as you can, before the bombers come in and once they go through kill all remaining units in alpha base, and the achievement should pop up if you passed the stage in under  12 minutes and killed  all units.
