Map Strategy: Gemini

By Nino Mann

"This sanctuary now rings with the sound of combat—the end of the ancient duality of the Covenant is truly at hand."

The familiar halls of Covenant architecture link to a central chamber—the main arena on Gemini. Weapons lie scattered about the anteroom like forgotten toys in a child's playroom. Several paths lead to the chamber of the prophets. Inside, marvel at the awe-inspiring sculpture and holographic representation of Halo, which probably served as a backdrop for calm reflection before political debate. Those days are gone, and all that's left is a concrete statue resting in a shallow pool.

The statue makes a fine hunting perch.

The structure looms over an overshield power-up surrounded by rippling water and floating lily pads. Three doorways serve as exits, places to gather munitions and armaments or take an unpredictable ride via teleport to the building's exterior. Be careful—one false jump while admiring the tower of light streaming in the distance spells doom for a careless sightseer. On the other side of the chamber a Covenant Energy Sword sits at the top of a pair of ramps, nestled between the trunks of a Siamese tree. It's a serene area, in harmony with nature. The air is quiet … but not for long.

Do you see what I see up in that tree?

The map supports a healthy number of players, but its calm intimacy lends itself to hectic Slayer battles. All it takes is one clown with a Brute Shot in hand and the whole place erupts with lethal activity. Ride the anti-grav pad and check out the statue up close. Not only do you get a better view of its sturdy construction, you also get a great shot at your enemy's backside!

Gemini is one of five new maps included in the appropriately titled Maptacular Map Pack for Halo® 2. Hardened warriors can purchase these playgrounds of destruction in one of two ways. For a paltry $11.99, Xbox Live® subscribers download the pack to their Xbox® hard drives. Unlucky offline gamers (non-subscribers) who can't take their consoles online can get the new content on DVD in a deluxe edition called the Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack, which includes the five Maptacular Maps, both Killtacular Maps, two Bonus Maps, the Halo 2 1.1 update, and some extra goodies—all for $19.99.
