Xbox Member ReviewCall of JuarezBy GoW Junglebud Call Of Juarez, it may not mean much to you at the moment but it will soon. It is the newest and best Wild West first person shooter originally released on PC then brought out on Xbox 360. It is loosly based on many different Western movies and it follows the interlinked story of the two main characters Billy and Reverand Ray. You start in the middle of the final bloody battle (to give you a taste of things to come) where it is you verse everyone and all you have is a machine gun with unlimited ammunition. It is not revealed as to who you are otherwise the game would be spoiled you just have to keep shooting. Suddenly the screen goes black and a "Two Weeks Earlier" sign appears on the screen. When it faades back in you are in control of Billy who has come back to his home town after having been gone for about two years lookiong for Aztec treasure. You must make your way to your stepfather farm house on the other side of the town whilst learning all the controls. On the way you encounter many braintesting problems which add depth to the game. Once at the farm the story changes to Reverand Ray who was once an outlaw now a man of God. He is in the middle of delivering a sermon when a villager bursts in saying that they heard gun shoots from Ray's brother's (Billy's stepdad) farm. Once he gets there he finds Billy standing over his brother and sister-in-laws corpses. This is when the stories start to interlink. Billy runs away and Ray starts to follow but Billy luckily escapes. So Ray goes back to his church to get his trusty revolvers which he uses to dish out God's wrath. They each have their different attributes Billy's are more to do with stealth where-as the good Reverand's are all to do with guns. Billy story is mainly about him walking around stealthily with his old fashioned bow and arrow which does get tedious and he doesn't really have a speciall ability. So you spend a lot of time hiding in bushes with your bow picking off enemies one by one. Where this can be slow Ray's story is not, his main weapons are his duel revolvers from his outlaw days. He has the ability of "Concentration" which is like a slow-mo mode for a short amount of time where you can pick of enemies with frightening accuracy. He also has his Bible at his disposal, he quotes passages to confuse his enemies and attack while they are distracted.
Throughout the game you encouner various "bosses" which can only be beaten through a good old fashioned Western duel. This adds a very fun element to the game as they have perfected how it is done. There are also times in the game where you ride on things such as horses and coal carts which is loads of fun. The online multiplayer is also a very entertaining part of the game but it doesnt really push the boundaries as it is much like the Battlefield series where you pick your class of soldier and fight. But the maps are excellent with lots of depth aswell as the sound which makes it very authentice. But for all the good there is also the bad, mainly this is because of the boring stealth part of Billy's story but this can be forgotten with Ray's run-and-gun sequences. Also at times it does seem afaully like other Western games but you can get past that. In summary an excellent Western game with many new features and some old, an excellent story line that was well thought out. With the only pitfalls being tedious stealth sections which can be made up for for fantastic gun fight. I recommend this game to any fan of a good shooter. Gameplay:10. Loads of old stlye fun and a gunslinging priest, seriously can't get better than that. Graphics: 9.Definetly some of the best I've seen. Sound: 8.5. Very authentic. Replayability: 6. Not as good the second time, althought there is a harder difficulty unlocked. Multiplayer: 8. Very entertaining. Overall: 8.3.Best I've played in a long time.
