Account FAQs

  • How do I save my Xbox Live account to my memory unit?
In the Xbox Live section of the Xbox Dashboard:

    i) Go to Account Management and select your Xbox Live account.
    ii) Go to Copy/Delete.
    iii)Select Copy.
    iv)Select Memory Unit.
  • Can I move my Xbox Live account from one Xbox to another?
Yes, but you will need to have an Xbox Memory Unit to do this. In the Xbox Live section of the Xbox Dashboard:

i)Select Account Management, and choose the account you want to copy.
ii)Select Copy/Delete, and then select the Xbox Memory Unit to copy to.
iii)Move the Xbox Memory Unit to the new Xbox and follow the same procedure, except this time copy it from the Xbox Memory Unit to the Xbox hard disk.

After this is done, you can delete the account from the original Xbox and optionally delete it from the Xbox Memory Unit.
  • Can I use my Xbox Live account on my friend's Xbox?
Yes, but you will need to copy your Xbox account to an Xbox Memory Unit. Bring your memory unit to your friend's house and plug it in while playing and you will see your Gamertag become available for selection during sign in.

In general, it is perfectly valid to keep your Xbox Liveaccount on both an Xbox and an Xbox Memory Unit at the same time. However, make sure that you only change the account pass code on the Xbox that contains the account with the Xbox Memory Unit plugged in at the time of change. Changing the pass code without the memory unit present will render the account on the memory unit invalid, even if you use the original pass code when signing in.
  • How many Xbox Live accounts can I keep on one Xbox?
You can have up to eight accounts on one Xbox. If you need to keep more than eight accounts, you will need to use a separate memory unit for each account.
  • If I don't place a pass code on my account, does it mean it is not protected and anybody on the Internet can use it?
No. Even when you don't have a pass code placed on your account, nobody else can use your account except for the people that have access to your Xbox or memory unit.
  • Why can't guests have formal names during the game?
Guests of users are displayed as guests during the game so that when people complain about somebody, they have a user to complain about. Host users are responsible for the behaviour of their guests during online play. When negative feedback is sent about a guest, it is applied to the host.
